A name taken from a prestigious British automobile has evolved into a prominent family- owned restaurant that has withstood the test of time at the Lake of the Ozark.

Clarence and Margaret Ziegler founded Bentleys Restaurant & Pub in St. Louis more than three decades ago, and then opened the Lake area restaurant 35 years ago. Current owner Bill Ziegler said his parents were in search of a name for their original restaurant on Manchester Street in Des Peres near St. Louis. They happened to see a Bentley car and were attracted to the name. Ultimately, the quality of the British automobile has been reflected in the dedication to quality and consistency at the restaurant.

Restaurants have been in the Ziegler bloodline since the 1960s. Bills parents were in the business with friends before heading out on their own. Eventually, they opened a second Bentleys on Olive Street in Olivette, another St. Louis suburb.

Bentleys is open Monday through Saturday at 5 p.m. Reservations are encouraged, but not required.

The restaurant is closed in January and February.
